Fandom: Welcome to Hell
Pairing: Jonathan/Zack

The summer was horrid. Temperatures in the triple digits and humid air did nothing to calm Jonathan's nerves and left him feeling sticky and suffocated. Part of that had to do with his grey sweatshirt, he was sure, and he should probably change after class. But that wasn't for another forty five minutes. Until then, he was stuck in a sweltering, non air conditioned classroom, roasting in a fleece prison.

He tugged at the collar of his hoodie and tried to get some air in his shirt. It was only 10:30, why was it so hot already.

"Psst. Jonathan."

 And there it was.

He couldn't expect one day of peace could he? Sock had more or less learned to leave him alone during class but there were still times when he couldn't be quiet. Ignoring him usually worked.

"Jonathan, Zack's looking at you again."

"What?" Jonathan made sure to whisper to not attract any attention as he whipped around and instantly sneered, forgetting about ignoring Sock.

Zack was eyeing him with a smirk and lidded eyes. Jonathan shrunk down, turning back away and hunching his shoulders.

This had been going on for months. Maybe a year now. It started happening long before Sock showed up. Zack Phineas Melto was someone Jonathan had known since freshman year. And by 'known' that meant he was aware Zack existed. Back then Jonathan had been a short, stick thin, socially awkward loser and Zack was already popular from the magic that was high school sports. He and Jonathan shared a couple classes. They never spoke once until junior year, and by then Jonathan had become even more anti-social, but had gotten taller and more filled out. Zack, taking it a step further, had turned into a tank of pure muscle and the most outgoing and obnoxious person Jonathan had ever met. He was surrounded by people constantly and always had on a really douchey smile on his face.

For some unknown reason Zack started flirting with him. Explicitly. At first Jonathan thought it was a joke but when Zack began asking him out two and three times a day, he got the inkling that it wasn't just a prank. Jonathan didn't have an issue with it at first. It was a little odd that his highschool's quarterback would want to date him, but it was still somewhat flattering in way, as insufferable as Zack was, Jonathan wasn't completely heartless. He politely turned him down.

It wasn’t bad until Zack started getting more persistent. Creepy stares in the locker room and corny love notes in Jonathan’s locker. That got annoying. Hell if Zack had given him room to breathe Jonathan might have considered him just to be nice. Jonathan didn't give a crap about dating but it's not like Zack was ugly or an asshole or anything. He might have even been less obnoxious outside of school. But with the way Zack had gotten so incessant, it could never happen.

Sock was still making obscene gestures Zack's way and frowning when the jock couldn't see him.

"Can't you just punch him or something? Do teenagers still do that?"

Jonathan snapped out of his thoughts at Sock's whining. The little demon was grimacing in Zack's direction and tugging at the flaps of his hat in frustration. For some reason Jonathan couldn't figure out, Sock really hated Zack. Even more than he did.

Writing a response down on the piece of paper he was supposed to be taking notes on, Jonathan looked at Sock and motioned him over to read it.

'Yeah because that would go over well. I wouldn't get my ass kicked or anything.'

Sock seemed to ponder that, tapping his chin and looking up at the ceiling before his eyes widened and he gasped with a wide grin. "Oh I know!" he popped up on Jonathan's desk and sent the teen back in his seat. "What if I just haunted him for a day? I could take a day off from you, and go scare Zack and make him leave!"

A couple people glanced over at them when Jonathan jumped back suddenly at his desk. Not as bad as the first time Jonathan had Sock in class with him, but still, he needed to tone it down. Not like Sock could scare anyone anyway. That was a terrible idea and Jonathan rolled his eyes before scribbling out a response.

'I thought I was supposed to kill myself. Don't you want him around so I’ll be miserable?'

It wasn't hard to see the way Sock froze and struggled to respond, rubbing one arm and biting his lip.

"Well no. I mean yeah! You definitely need to suffer! Totally! But I want it to be because of me. It has to be because of me! You can't kill yourself because of someone at school, you gotta do it because I'm the one that made you miserable. Duh!"

Sock looked at him with a hopeful smile and a desperate plea in his eye, like he was waiting for Jonathan to accept what he said as truth and not question it again.

But he didn't buy it at all. Hell, Sock was a terrible demon but he was an even worse liar. Jonathan didn't get what his deal was but he didn't feel like pressing him anymore, mainly because he just didn't care. Whatever Sock was hiding, it couldn't be more important that what he was dealing with right now.

Jonathan didn't reply. Just slouched in his seat and tried to ignore the eyes burning into the side of his head. It seemed like Sock was satisfied, because he didn't talk anymore until the bell rang, though Jonathan was positive the demon was still thinking over what Jonathan said.

Once he had shoved his way out of the packed classroom and over to his locker, Sock whispered in his ear with an obnoxious teasing tone in his voice that made Jonathan grit his teeth.

"Psssst. Look it's that girl you have a crush on."

Jonathan shook his head and ignored him, twisting the combination lock. He was probably talking about Lil. Lil was cool. He didn't know anything about her except that she didn't talk to anyone, she had a temper, and she was really scary. Which would usually mean she was someone to avoid but Jonathan was just really fascinated with her.

Sock had convinced him to talk to her once before, but got interrupted by the late bell. He never forgot the way she looked at him for those few seconds. Such suspicion. Jonathan wondered if she could somehow see Sock, but realized she probably just didn't trust him. He was a strange guy, a full head taller than her, grinning and giving a stupid wave when he tried to say hi. He felt like a dork. Like he was her Zack. It was no wonder he hadn't seen her lately, and it made him want to turn around at Sock's suggestion just so he could get a glimpse of her.

He slammed the locker open once the combination was clicked, forgetting his thoughts as he pulled his hoodie over his head, and stuffing it into his locker. The feel of the school's sub par air conditioner was much easier to feel.
